AUGUST

20th August 2015 - Medical Assistance At Arambol

Description of Incident: On 20th Aug 2015, at about 1715hrs Approx 1 km right side of the Arambol tower (a rocky area) a local was fishing in a rocky area. After a while he slipped and fell down and sustained injury to head and bruises. The same was informed by another local to Sector head who immediately directed the lifeguards to the spot. The victim was comforted and a call was placed to the 108 Ambulance. The victim was shifted to the entrance by lifeguard jeep and was handed over to the requisitioned 108 ambulance.

17th August 2015 - Single Rescue at Palolem

Description of Incident: On 17th August 2015 at about 1740 hrs approx. 50 mtrs left of Palolem tower five tourists were playing in the water with a ball. While playing, one of them went to get the ball wherein he got drifted into a rip current and was unable to stay afloat and thus shouted for help. Duty lifeguard Krishna Velip spotted the victim in distress, and immediately relayed a rescue message to the tower and rushed towards the victim’s aid with the rescue board. Victim was secured onto the rescue board and was brought to the shore safely. Victim was assessed for any injuries since he found to be normal he was released immediately.

16th August 2015 - 5 Victims Rescued at Calangute

Nature of Incident: 5 Victims Rescued

Description of Incident: On 16th Aug 2015, at about 1530hrs Approx 100mtrs right side of the Calangute tower there was a crowd 400-500 tourists in a red flag area . While enjoying three tourist were pulled by rip current which dragged the victims 10-20mtrs seawards and were seen struggling to swim back to shore. After making hard efforts they found it difficult to stay afloat and raised an alarm for help. Lifeguard Sandeep & Nehal noticed the victims in distress and immediately rushed to their aid after alerting the tower. On receiving the rescue call backup team rushed to the spot to provide possible backup. All three victims were safely secured by rescue tube and rescue board. As the rescue was in progress another two tourist were seen struggling as they were unable to stay float and started waving for help. This was observed by backup team of lifeguards. All five victims were secured one by one and brought safely to the shore. Their vitals were checked and found to be normal and hence all five victims were released with safety advice.

16th August 2015 - Medical Assistance at Palolem

Description of Incident: On 16th August 2015 at about 1615 hrs approx. 200 mtrs left of Palolem tower a local was spotted lying on the shore and was vomiting. Patrolling lifeguards Ajay Velip rushed to his help after informing the tower, lifeguard reached the spot and checked his vitals and placed him into recovery position. At the same time a call was placed to 108 ambulance. Meanwhile patrol jeep reached spot and since the ambulance was delayed the victim was transferred to the Cancona PHC in the lifeguard jeep and handover to the doctor. After awhile the doctor told that the victim was out of danger and was kept under observation.

15th August 2015 - Single Rescue at Baina

Description of Incident: On 15th August 2015 at about 1530 hrs approx. 01 km mtrs left of Baina tower 03 locals entered for swimming and were about 15 mtrs seawards. After sometime, one of them ventured in the deeper waters and got caught in a rip current which dragged him about 25 mtrs seaward. Thus the victim panicked and started gesturing for help. Lifeguard Krishnakumar Karmali manning the point spotted the victim in distress and rushed to his aid after alerting the tower for jetski backup. Victim was secured with rescue tube by lifeguard Krishnakumar, simultaneously jetski reached the spot and brought the victim ashore safely. Thereafter the victim was checked for any injuries since he was found to be normal he was released immediately.

15th August 2015 - Double Resuce at Calangute

Description of Incident: On 15th Aug 2015, at about 1245hrs Approx 50mtrs right of Calangute tower a group of friends entered in the water Duty lifeguard’s Siddesh and Rishikesh manning the point requested the tourists to enjoy at knee level water but the tourists refused to pay attention to the lifeguards requests. While enjoying the duo was hit by oncoming waves and thus got trapped into underwater current which dragged the victims 20mtrs offshore and were seen gesturing for help. Duty lifeguard observed the victims in distress and immediately rushed to the spot after relaying a rescue call over the radio. On receiving a rescue call backup team rushed to the spot with the rescue board and rescue tube. Immediately a jet ski was launched for possible backup and was directed to the spot. The victims were secured by the rescue board & the rescue tube and were brought safely to the shore. Upon primary checkup since no abnormalities were noted they were released with safety advice.

8th August 2015 - Medical Assistance at Candolim

Description of Incident: On 8th August 2015, at about 0745hrs Approx 200-250mtrs right side of the Candolim tower an unknown tourist was found lying on the sand closer to the seashore and was under influence of heavy amount of alcohol. When the Patrolling jeep driver observed the tourist lying on the shore, a call was placed to the tower for medical assistance. Sensing upon the situation the victim had a shallow pulse and was breathing hard hence victim was put into the jeep and made an exit from the beach towards candolim tower. Simultaneously a call was placed to 108. At about 0805hrs ambulance arrived at the spot and the victim was handed over to the ambulance staff.


JULY


28th July 2015 - Double Rescue at Calangute

Description of Incident: On 28th July 2015, at about 0735hrs approx 50mtrs left of Calangute tower a family from Patna entered in the water and were at a distance of 10-15 mtrs seawards. Duty lifeguard manning the point requested the tourists to enjoy at knee level but the tourists refused to pay attention to the lifeguards request and continued at same location. While enjoying the group was hit by oncoming waves and two members got trapped in underwater current which pulled the victims10mtrs offshore. The victims panicked and started gesturing for help. Duty lifeguard observed the victims in distress and immediately rushed to the spot after relaying a rescue call over the radio. Victims were secured by the rescue board & rescue tube and were brought to the shore safely. Upon primary checkup, since no abnormalities were noted they were released with safety advice.

9th July 2015 - Double Rescue at Vagator

Description of Incident: On the 9th July 2015 at about 1035hrs approx 150 left side of Vagator tower a foreigner along with his daughter was spotted swimming in a red flag area approx at a distance of 10-15mtrs offshore. Lifeguard Francis and Pritesh monitoring the area requested them to enjoy at knee level but they did not pay any heed to the lifeguards requests and continued at same spot. While enjoying the duo were pulled by underwater currents which dragged them further offshore. After struggling to swim back to the shore and on making hard efforts they found it difficult to stay afloat and were seen gesturing for help. Duty lifeguards observed the victims in distress and immediately rushed to the spot along with the rescue equipments after relaying a rescue call over the radio. On receiving a rescue call immediately a jet ski was launched and directed to the spot to provide possible backup. Lifeguard Francis took a rescue board while Pritesh carried a rescue tube. The duo was secured onto the rescue board & the rescue tube and were brought safely to the shore with the help of the jet ski. Upon primary checkup since no abnormalities were noted they were released with safety advice.


MAY


25th May 2015 - First Aid Assistance at Colva

Description of Incident: On 25th May 2015 at about 1610 hrs approx 100 right of Colva tower a tourist was enjoying in the swim zone area along with her family members about 15 mtrs from the shore. While enjoying the victim was hit by a huge wave where the victim got injured. Family members brought the victim ashore and called the nearby lifeguard for help. Duty lifeguard Remy Fernandes and Ganesh Gaonkar reached the spot. While checking victim’s vitals it was found that the victim was having a breathing problem, immediately a call was placed to 108 ambulance and a patrol jeep was called for backup. Oxygen was administered and since the ambulance delayed the victim was transferred to DLPL jeep and was shifted to Margao hospicio hospital for further treatment. After treatment doctors told that the victim was out of danger.

24th May 2015 - Single Rescue at Majorda

Description of Incident: On 24th May 2015 at about 1430 hrs at Dudhsagar river, lifeguard Devendra naik was controlling a crowd of about 100-150 tourists enjoying in the water. A local was swimming in a non swim zone and as he was under influence of alcohol he ventured into deeper level and while returning back, got tired and found him in danger. Duty lifeguard Devendra Naik spotted the victim gesturing for help, who immediately rushed to his aid with the rescue tube. Victim was secured with the rescue tube and was brought out of the water safely, Later victim’s vitals were checked and found to be normal since the victim had consumed alcohol and was not responding he was placed into a recovery position and a call was placed to 108 ambulance. On arrival of ambulance, the victim was transferred to 108 ambulance and was shifted to Usgao Govt. PHC for further treatment. Later it was confirmed from the hospital that the victim was out of danger.

24th May 2015 - Medical Emergency at Arambol

Description of Incident: On 24th May 2015, at about 1100hrs Approx 50mtrs left side of the arambol tower 150-200 tourists were enjoying swimming in red flag area, a local was at knee level waterline after awhile the victim was hit by oncoming waves and was facing difficulty in breathing, this was observed by lifeguard Mano. Sensing upon the situation the victim was put into a recovery position and thus omitted water particles hence her airway was cleared and oxygen was administered. Simultaneously a call was placed to 108 ambulance since the ambulance was busy on another call the victim’s family decided to shift the victim in their own car and directed towards Tuem CHC. Upon diagnostic checkup CHC doctors kept the victim under observation and later doctors stated that the victim was out danger.

21st May 2015 - First Aid Assistance at Varca

Description of Incident: On 21st May 2015 at about 1830 hrs approx. 100 mtrs right of Varca tower a tourist while playing cricket on the shore suddenly fell down and got injured. Victim’s friends alerted the duty lifeguard for help, following which the duty lifeguards Sydney Fernandes and Mahesh Bandekar rushed towards the spot. Lifeguard reached to the spot and found that the victim’s right leg got dislocated and victim was not able to walk. Immediately patrol jeep was called and a call was placed to 108 ambulance. Victim was transferred to 108 ambulance by DLPL jeep and was handed over to ambulance staff.

10th May 2015 - Major Rescue at Colva

Description of Incident: On 10th May 2015 at about 1245 hrs approx. 50 mtrs right of Colva tower a tourist was swimming under the influence of alcohol in neck level water. After sometime duty lifeguard Shashikant Naik noticed that the victim was struggling to reach ashore, he immediately rushed to his aid after alerting the tower. Victim was brought to the shore safely and while checking his vitals it was found that the victim had a breathing problem. Oxygen was administered to the victim and a call was placed to 108 ambulance. Since the ambulance delayed, the victim was transferred to DLPL jeep and was shifted to Hospicio hospital. After a diagnostic checkup doctor declared that the victim was out of danger.

3rd May 2015 - Major Rescue at Calangute

Description of Incident: On 3rd May 2015, at about 1315hrs Approx 60mtrs left side of the Calangute tower, a local was swimming along with his family in a prohibited area and was at a distance of 30-40mtrs seawards. Lifeguard Krishna manning the point requested the tourists to shift to a safer zone. As the locals were under the influence of alcohol they did not pay any heed towards the lifeguards request and continued at the same location. While swimming the victim tried to venture into deeper waters and at certain distance he felt a sudden change in water level and experienced an inward pull which dragged the victim 10-20mtrs offshore. Following duty lifeguard observed the same and rushed to the spot with the rescue board after relaying a message over the radio. Victim was secured with the rescue tube safely and was placed onto the rescue board and was brought ashore safely. Upon recovery the victim vomited huge amount of water. Simultaneously a call was placed to 108 ambulance. After 5-8 mins ambulance arrived at the spot and the victim was handed over to the ambulance staff.


APRIL


28th April 2015 - Double Rescue at Agonda

Description of Incident: On 28th April 2015 at about 1615 hrs approx. 500 mtrs right of Agonda tower a foreign couple were spotted swimming about 40 mtrs from the shore. While swimming the female swiftly drifted into a rip current, following which the male rushed to her aid and also found himself in danger. Duty Lifeguards Nilesh Velip and Narayan Velip observed the victims shouting and gesturing for help, immediately they relayed a rescue message to the tower and rushed into water to secure the victims. Lifeguard Narayan Velip secured the female victim onto the rescue board while Nilesh secured the other victim with the rescue tube. After awhile, a Jet ski reached the spot and brought the duo ashore safely. Thereafter the victims were assessed for any injuries and since both were found to be normal they were released immediately with safety advice.

19th April 2015 - Medical Assistance at Sinquerim

Description of Incident: On 19th April 2015, at about 1120hrs Approx 850-950mtrs from Sinquerim tower on fort Aguada a tourist was watching scenic view of the fort. While watching he fell down into the water near the rocky area which was observed by water sports rider riding the jet ski in water, and immediately rushed at the spot and observed the tourist gesturing for help. The victim was brought out of water by water sports operator and was handed over to lifeguards Nitin / Somey. Immediately distress call was placed over the radio for medical assistance. Sensing upon the situation it was observed that the victim got scratches on his hand and leg, body was safely placed onto the rescue board and made an exit towards candolim PHC. Upon checking his vitals PHC doctors made primary first aid and referred the victim to GMC Bambolim.

16th April 2015 - Major Rescue at Vagator

Description of Incident: On 16th April 2015, at about 1535hrs Approx 500-600mtrs left side of the Vagator tower on the rocky side a tourist was swimming along with his friends in a non-swim zone aprrox at a distance of 30-40mtrs seawards. Lifeguard Nanda/Nitesh manning the point requested the tourists to shift at a safer zone; however the tourists were under the influence of alcohol and did not pay any heed to the lifeguard’s requests. While enjoying the victim tried to venture into deeper waters and experienced a sudden change in water level and thus panicked. The duty lifeguards observed the victim in distress and rushed at the spot with the rescue tube & the rescue board after relaying a message over the radio. The victim was secured with the rescue tube and was safely placed onto the rescue board and was brought to the shore. The victim was facing difficulty in breathing and vomited huge amount of water, hence his airway was cleared and oxygen was administered. Simultaneously a call was placed to 108 ambulance, after 5-10 min the ambulance arrived and the victim was handed to the ambulance staff.

15th April 2015 - Major Rescue at Baga

Description of Incident: On 15th April 2015 at 1035hrs approx. 200mtrs Baga 2 towe , a group of 4 tourists were spotted swimming in a non swim zone approx at a distance of 25-30mtrs seawards. Lifeguard requested the tourists to shift at a safer zone as it was not safe for swimming, as the tourists tried to venture into deeper level, the victims got pulled by the rip current which dragged them 30-40 mtrs seawards, when the victims tried to swim back to the shore they found themselves in distress and started gesturing for help. On duty Lifeguard Sachin /Kishan observed the victims in distress and approached them with the rescue board /tube after relaying a rescue message over the radio. On receiving a rescue call backup team was rushed at the spot for possible backup, victims were safely secured onto the board and rescue tube and were safely brought to the shore one by one respectively. Upon recovery one of the victim vomited fluids and particles & blood, hence airway was cleared and oxygen was administered simultaneously a call was placed to 108 ambulance. As the 108 ambulance was busy on another phone call hence victim was shifted in lifeguard jeep and made an exit by the beach towards candolim PHC. Upon diagnostic checkup PHC doctors referred victim to GMC Bambolim.

11th April 2015 - First Aid Assistance at Palolem

On 11th April 2015 at about 1230 hrs approx. 500 mtrs of Palolem tower a tourist slipped from the rock and his right leg got twisted. The on Duty lifeguard Pandurang Padkar observed the victims friends gesturing for help and rushed towards the spot after relaying a message to the tower. Lifeguard reached the spot and saw that the victim right leg got twisted and he couldn’t walk, immediately lifeguard called a patrolling jeep for assistance. A patrolling jeep reached the spot and provided a primary first aid to the victim. Later, victim was shifted to Cancona PHC for further treatment and was handed to the doctor.

8th April 2015 - Triple Rescue at Velsao

Description of Incident: On 08th April 2015 at about 1730 hrs approx left of Velsao tower a group of 7-8 locals were swimming in a non swim zone about 20 mtrs from the shore. Duty lifeguard Ravi Lamani requested the group to shift to a safe swim zone but they continued swimming at the same location. After sometime, three of them were caught into a rip current which dragged the victims about 25 mtrs offshore thus they panicked and shouted for help. Lifeguard Ravi spotted the victims in distress and rushed to their aid with the rescue board after alerting the tower over the radio. Two victims were secured onto the rescue board by lifeguard Ravi, simultaneously a jet ski reached the spot and secured the third victim. All the three victims were brought ashore safely and thereafter, their vitals were checked. Since they were found to be normal they were released immediately.

6th April 2015 - Single Rescue at Vagator

Description of Incident: On the 6th April 2015 at about 1120hrs left side of Vagator tower at point Ozran, a tourist was enjoying in a non swim zone. Lifegaurd Rajesh and Nanda monitoring the area requested the tourists to enjoy at knee level closer to the waterline. As the victim were under influence of alcohol he did not pay any heed to the lifegaurd’s request and continued at same location. While enjoying victim was pulled by underwater current which dragged the victim offshore and he was seen struggling to swim back to the shore. Duty lifeguards observed the victim in distress and immediately rushed to the spot along with the rescue equipment after placing a rescue call over the radio. Victim was secured with the rescue tube and brought safely to the shore on the rescue board. Upon primary checkup since no abnormalities were noted he was released with safety advice.

5th April 2015 - Double Rescue at Anjuna

Description of Incident: On 05th April 2014, at about 1250hrs left side of the Anjuna tower two tourists were spotted swimming along with their friends in a non-swim zone. Both the victims were caught in a rip current which dragged them seawards and they found it difficult to stay afloat and thus raised an alarm for help. Duty lifeguard Siddesh and Ramchandra monitoring the area observed the victims in distress, and immediately alerted the lifeguard tower and rushed towards the victims. Immediately a jet ski was directed at the spot to provide possible backup. Both the victims were secured with the help of the rescue board and rescue tube and were safely placed onto the jet ski mat and brought to the shore. Their vitals were checked and since they were found to be normal, both the victims were released to their friends.

4th April 2015 - First Aid Assistance at Bogmallo

Description of Incident: On 04th April 2015 at about 1715 hrs, right of Bogmallo tower, a tourist swimming in the waist level water. While enjoying a huge wave hit the victim due to which he was unable to stay afloat. Duty lifeguard Sidhram Chalwadi and Chandappa Harizan observed the victim in distress following which they informed the tower and rushed to his aid. Lifeguard reached the spot and saw that the victim had suffered a spinal injury. Victim was brought out of the water and was placed safely on the stretcher and a call was placed to 108 ambulance. Since the ambulance was busy the victim was shifted to Chicalim PHC in DLPL jeep and was handed over to the doctors. Later it was confirmed from the hospital that the victim was shifted to GMC hospital for further treatment.

3rd April 2015 - Major Rescue at Bambolim

Description of Incident: On 03rd April 2015 at about 1745 hrs 200 mtrs left of Cavellosim tower a local was enjoying in the waist level water. While enjoying, suddenly he felt a sudden change in the depth of water level thus the victim panicked and raised his hand for help. Tower Captain who was monitoring from the tower observed the victim in distress and alerted the duty point lifeguards. Lifeguards Pratap Kankonkar and Shanta Velip rushed towards the victim with rescue tube. Lifeguard Pratap secured the victim with the rescue tube and brought him safely to the shore. While checking his vitals, it was found that the victim was having a breathing problem, immediately oxygen was administered and the victim was shifted to Cuncolim NUSSI hospital and was handed over to the doctors. After a diagnostic check up the doctors informed that the victim’s vitals were stable.

26th March 2015 - Major rescue at Mobor

Description of Incident: On 26th Mar 2015 at about 1200 hrs approx.200 mtrs Left of Mobor tower at the mouth of the river, lifeguard spotted one fishing trawler venturing seawards and noticed a crew member jump into the water and was coming towards the shore. After a while the victim got tired and found himself in danger and shouted for help. Lifeguard Kamalakar Velip observed the victim in distress and rushed to his aid, after alerting the tower for jet ski backup. Lifeguard Kamalakar Velip reached the spot and secured the victim with the rescue tube. Simultaneously a jet ski reached the spot and thereafter victim was brought ashore safely with the help of the jet ski. While checking the victim’s vitals, it was found that the victim had shallow breathing , immediately oxygen was administered to the victim and a call was placed to 108 ambulance. Since the 108 ambulance was busy it was decided to transfer the victim by DLPL jeep to the hospital. On the way to the hospital the victim started vomiting and on arrival to the hospital victim was handed over to the doctor. After diagnostic checkup the doctor informed that the victim was out of danger and was kept under observation.

2nd March 2015 - First Aid Assistance at Cavellosim

Description of Incident: On 22nd Mar 2015 at about 1015 hrs approx. 200 mtrs left of Cavellosim tower a local girl suddenly collapsed on the beach. Duty lifeguard Premanand Velip noticed a crowd gather around her and thus rushed to the spot. Lifeguard checked the victim’s vitals and found that she was facing difficulty in breathing. Immediately he informed the tower for backup. The patrol jeep reached the spot and immediately oxygen was administered to the patient. A call was simultaneously placed to the 108 ambulance. Since the requisitioned ambulance was busy, the victim was transferred to lifeguard jeep and shifted to Cuncolim Nussi hospital for further treatment. After initial checkup the doctor informed that victim was out of danger.

Description of Incident: On 20th Mar 2015 at about 0825 hrs approx. 150 mtrs right of Majorda tower a tourist was swimming about 25 mtrs from the shore. After a while, he swiftly drifted into a rip current which dragged the victim about 30 mtrs seawards thus the victim panicked and raised an alarm for help. Lifeguard Tulshidas Gaude monitoring from the tower spotted the victim in danger and rushed to his aid with the rescue tube. Victim was secured with the rescue tube and was brought to the shore safely. After obtaining his credentials the victim was released immediately with safety advice.

Description of Incident: On 15th March 2015, at about 9000hrs Approx 350Mtrs Left side of baga 2 tower. On Duty Lifeguard Demgo manning the point suddenly Informed the Lifeguard that One of his guest is having a problem in his shack .Immediately Lifeguard rushed after relaying emergency call on radio for backup and immediately Gauresh Gaunekar & Sandeep Mhapankar rushed on the spot . Lifeguard noticed that he became Semiconscious in the Om shiwai Shack .As he was not opening his eyes and there was no movement of body . Lifeguard also noticed that victim was also facing breathing difficulty and had shallow breathing ,he was put into recovery position for few minutes and Oxygen was supplied to him,Simultaneously a call was placed to Candolim jeep for medical assistance and the victim was safely placed into the jeep and was shifted towards Candolim PHC. Upon diagnostic checkup PHC doctors transferred the victim in GMC for further treatment.

Description of Incident: On 15th March 2015, at about 12.15 hrs approx 800Mtrs left of Ashwem tower a local entered in a non-swim zone and was approx at knee level water. Lifeguard Yeshwant manning the point observed the victim who collapsed suddenly and thus rushed to the spot after relaying an emergency call over a radio. Tower Captain acted promptly and directed lifeguard Rushikesh & Sitaram to the spot for backup. The victim was brought safely to the shore and his vitals were checked. Since the victim was facing difficulty in breathing, he was put in a recovery position for few minutes & Oxygen was administered. Simultaneously a call was placed to 108 ambulance. After a few minutes the 108 Ambulance reached the spot and the victim was safely handed over to the paramedics.

Description of Incident: On 10th March 2015, at about 1010hrs Approx 400-500mtrs left side of the Ashwem tower a tourist entered in a non-swim zone and was approx at a distance of 20-25mtrs seawards. Lifeguard Vaman manning the point requested the tourists to enjoy in safer water but they did not pay any heed to the lifeguard’s requests and continued at same location. After awhile the victim was hit by a huge wave and got trapped in an underwater current and thus was seen gesturing for help. Duty lifeguard observed the victim in distress, immediately he rushed to the spot along with the rescue tube. On receiving a rescue call the jet ski was also directed to the spot for possible backup. The victim was secured onto jet ski mat and brought safely to the shore. Upon primary checkup since no abnormalities were noted the victim was released with safety advice.

Description of Incident: On 09th Mar 2015 at about 1300 hrs approx 150 mtrs right of Mobor tower two tourists were swimming in a non-swim area about 25 mtrs from the shore. While enjoying they were caught in a rip current which dragged them about 35 mtrs seawards thus they panicked and shouted for help. Duty lifeguard Nagu Madgaonkar spotted the duo in distress and immediately informed the tower and rushed towards the victims with the rescue board. Tower reacted promptly directed the jetski towards the spot. Victim-2 was secured onto the jetski by lifeguard Rajendra Gaonkar while the Victim-1 was secured onto the rescue board by lifeguard Nagu Madgaonkar. The duo was checked for any abnormalities, since both were found to be normal they were released immediately.

Description of Incident: On the 9th Mar 2015 at about 1520hrs approx 1km left side of Vagator tower 70-80 tourists were enjoying in a non-swim zone at about 25-30mtrs the shore. Lifeguards Sachin and Jayesh monitoring the area requested the tourists to enjoy in knee deep water closer to the waterline, but victims were influence of alcohol hence did not pay any heed to the lifeguards requests. While enjoying the three tourists were pulled by under water current which dragged them 10-15mtrs offshore and were seen gesturing for help as they were unable to swim to the shore. Duty lifeguards observed the victims in distress and immediately rushed to the spot along with the rescue equipment after relaying a rescue call over the radio. Lifeguard Sachin took a board and while Jayesh carried rescue tube and the trio were secured and brought safely to the shore. After checking their vitals they were released with safety advice.

8th March 2015 - Triple Rescue at Dudhsagar river

Description of Incident: On 08th Mar 2015 at about 1250 hrs at dudhsagar river lifeguards Dasharath Sangodkat and Babu Gavli were controlling a crowd of around 200 tourist enjoying in the water. After awhile, 05 tourists ventured into a deeper section and while returning back 03 of them got tired and found themselves in trouble, thus panicking and raising an alarm for help. Duty lifeguard Dasharath and Babu rushed to their aid with rescue tube and rescue board respectively. Lifeguard Dashrath Sangodkar secured two victims onto the rescue board while the third victim was secured by lifeguard Babu with the rescue tube. All three victims were secured and brought out of the water safely. Upon recovery, all victims were assessed for any possible injuries since they were found to be normal they were released immediately after safety advice.

Description of Incident: On 07th Mar 2015 at 1515hrs approx. 150-200mtrs left of Candolim 2 tower, a tourist was spotted swimming in a non-swim zone approx at a distance of 25-30mtrs seawards. Duty lifeguard requested the tourist to shift as it was not safe for swimming. The tourist did not adhere to the lifeguards request and continued swimming at the same location. While enjoying the victim ventured into deeper waters and raised an alarm as he was unable to stay afloat. Lifeguard Pushparaj & Ajit manning the point observed the victim in distress and immediately rushed to the spot after relaying a rescue call over the radio. The victim was secured with the rescue tube and brought safely to the shore with the help of the rescue board. Upon recovery the victim vomited water and food particles. Victims airways was cleared and since he had difficulty in breathing he was placed in the DLPL jeep and shifted to the Candolim PHC. Upon diagnostic checkup the PHC doctors stated that the victim was out of danger.

Lifeguard Prakash Velip and Dinesh Gaonkar manning the point spotted the victim in distress and immediately rushed to the spot after alerting the lifeguard tower. The victim was safely brought to the shore. Thereafter, the victim’s vitals were checked and he was found to have a breathing problem. Oxygen was administered and a call was placed to 108 ambulance. Since the requisitioned ambulance was delayed the victim was shifted to Cancona PHC in DLPL jeep and handed over to the doctors. After a diagnostic checkup the PHC doctor informed that patient was out of danger.

Description of Incident: On 06th Mar 2015 at about 1415 hrs at Hollant beach lifeguard Mahadev Mallah and Srikant Giwari were controlling a crowd of 700-800 tourist in the water. After awhile a local who was in waist deep water suddenly collapsed and immediately his friend called out to the lifeguards for help. Duty lifeguards Mahadev Mallah and Srikant Giwari rushed to the spot and brought the victim safely to the shore. On checking the victim’s vitals, his pulse and breath were fond to be normal but victim was not responding. Immediately the victim was placed into a recovery position and call was placed to 108 ambulance. As the requisitioned ambulance was busy it was decided to shift the victim to the hospital by DLPL jeep. Victim was transferred in the DLPL jeep to the Chicalim PHC for further treatment. Later it was confirmed from the hospital that the victim was out of danger.

Description of Incident: On 25th Feb 2015 at about 1700 hrs approx. 150 mtrs left of zalor tower, a beach cleaning worker while cleaning the beach suddenly collapsed on the shore. Our duty lifeguard Mega Velip noticed him and rushed to the spot and saw that he was vomiting blood. A distress message was passed to the tower to call 108 ambulance and to send the patrol jeep for back up. Victim Pulse and breath was monitored and everything found to be normal meanwhile the patrol jeep reached spot and brought the victim to a safe location near the tower. On arrival of 108 ambulance lifeguards shifted the victim to the ambulance and was handed to their staff.

Description of Incident: On 15th feb. 2015 at about 1505hrs Approx 300mtrs of the Anjuna tower a tourist entered in a non swim zone along with his friend’s approx at a distance of 20-30mtrs seawards. The on duty lifeguard Sandeep requested the tourists to shift into the swim zone but the victim stated that he would stay close and hence was not in danger and continued at the same location. The lifeguard proceeded to patrol, while the tourist remained close to the shore however after a while tourist was spotted waving at about 20mtrs offshore and when he tried swimming, he felt that he was being dragged and started gesturing for help. The Duty lifeguard rushed at spot with the Rescue board after alerting to the Lifeguard Tower. Victim was secured And to Backup help Harischandra ran with the rescue tube and was brought ashore safely. After obtaining credentials victim was released immediately.

Description of Incident: On 01st Feb 2015 at about 1715 hrs approx. 700 mtrs left of Majorda tower, a group was playing football on the shore. While playing a boy felt down and dislocated his right shoulder. The victim's friend approached lifeguard Sunil Naik requesting for help. The lifeguard immediately informed the tower to send the backup team. Simultaneously a call was placed to 108 ambulance. Patrolling jeep reached at the spot and the victim was safely brought to the tower. Supervisor Sarvesh Gaude applied a triangular bandage to the victim. On arrival of 108 ambulance, the victim was shifted into the ambulance and handed over to their staff.

The following duty lifeguard observed the victims in distress and immediately LG rushed at spotted along with rescue board backup help with the jet ski and one more surf board by Ashwem lifeguard.1st victim secured by Jet ski and, another 2 victim secured by Rescue Board by two lifeguard & brought them shore safely.Upon primary checkup none abnormalities were noted hence released with safety advice.

As he consumed alcohol he was not able to walk properly.When he reached in the knee level water he collapsed into the water and was not able to stand. Duty lifeguard Ajay Velip and Ulhas Velip observed the victim in danger and rushed to his aid after alerting the tower.Both the lifeguards reached the spot and brought the victim ashore safely, Upon recovery, victim started vomiting hence he was placed into recovery position and call was placed to 108 ambulance.Since no positive response received from 108 ambulance victim was transferred to DLPL jeep and was shifted to Cancona PHC and was handed over to the doctor. Later it was confirmed from the hospital that victim was out of danger.

Description of Incident: On 24th Jan 2015 at 1305hrs approx. 700-800mtrs left of Arambol tower, a Russia foreigner was spotted entering in a non swim zone approx at a distance of 25-30mtrs seawards. Lifeguard requested the tourist to shift at a safer zone as it was not safe for swimming. In spite of several warnings, the tourist ventured in deeper rip currents dragged the victim 50-60 mtrs seawards. The victim tried to swim back to the shore was seen in distress and started gesturing for help. Lifeguard Sanjay observed the victim and approached him with a rescue board after relaying a message over the radio. The jetski was launched and directed at the spot for possible backup. The victim was secured onto the rescue board and safely brought to the shore. Upon recovery the victim vomitted fluid and particles hence airway was cleared and oxygen was administered. Simultaneously a call was placed to 108 ambulance. At about 1320hrs ambulance arrived at the spot and the victim was handed over to the ambulance staff. Upon diagnostic CHC doctors stated that he was out of danger.

It was observed that the victim was facing difficulty in breathing and vomitted huge amount of water. The victim was put into recovery position. Simultaneously a call was placed to Sinquerim jeep for medical assistance. The victim was safely placed into the jeep and to Candolim PHC. PHC doctors referred the victim at GMC further treatment.

Meanwhile a jetski reached at the spot and safely brought the victims at the shore. After recovery, their vitals were checked, since they were found to be normal were released immediately.

Simultaneously a call was placed to Calangute lifeguard jeep for medical assistance. On arrival of the jeep, the victim was safely placed into the jeep and made an exit towards the Candolim PHC. Upon diagnostic by PHC doctors he was referred at GMC further treatment.

Description of Incident: On 08th Jan 2015 at about 0950 hrs approx. 200 mtrs left of Cavellosim tower, a tourist was was spotted swimming at about 100 mtrs from the shore. After a while she experienced a fish bite hence it was difficult to swim back to the shore and started shouting for help. Duty lifeguard Ganesh Gaonkar observed the victim in trouble, who immediately relayed a message to the tower and rushed for her aid. Tower immediately alerted the jetski operator and directed him at the spot. The victim was secured onto the jetski and safely brought to the shore. Upon recovery, it was seen that the victim had fish bites on both her hands and legs and she was bleeding profusely. Immediately primary first aid was provided to stop the bleeding and a call was placed to 108 ambulance. Since the ambulance delayed, it was decided to shift the victim into the DLPL jeep and proceed to the hospital. On the way to the hospital, the victim was shifted to 108 ambulance and the victim was handed over to the ambulance staff.

Description of Incident: On 01st Jan 2015 at about 1530 hrs approx 500 mtrs right of Varca tower, a family comprising of 05 members were spotted entering in a non swim zone, they were about 20 mtrs from the shore. After a while a 9 year old boy from the group drifted due to underwater currents thus was seen gesturing for help. Lifeguard Arjun Velip manning the area observed the victim in trouble following which he rushed into water with a rescue board. Paddling at a distance of 25 mtrs the victim was secured onto the rescue board and was safely brought to the shore. The victim's vitals were checked and since he was found to be normal was released immediately to his family members.

1st January 2015 - Double Rescue at Mobor

Description of Incident: On 01st Jan 2015 at about 1215 hrs approx. 90 mtrs left of Mobor tower, a couple was seen entering in a non swim zone wearing life jackets. The couple ventured in deeper level and while returning back to the shore found themselves in danger, thus started shouting for help. Duty Lifeguard Norman Fernandes and Sandesh Velip noticed the same who immediately passed on the rescue message over the radio and rushed towards them with a rescue board and a rescue Tube. Sandesh Velip secured the duo onto the rescue board. Meanwhile Premanand Velip reached at the spot with patrolling jetski and safely brought them to the shore. Thereafter victims vitals were checked since they were found to be fit were released immediately.
